Once widespread across Africa, the African Wild (or hunting) dog has been reduced to scattered populations. Wild dogs live in large social packs, often with 30 or more individuals, cooperating to hunt large prey like zebra and wildebeest. It's unique coat pattern has earned it the name 'painted dog'.
